Olusola Osunmakinde on Doing Good Deeds Openly

One major temptation the church must avoid is going against the instructions of Jesus Christ because of the opinions of men.

Jesus clearly taught that our charitable deeds should be done secretly, and not before men. He said, “your left hand should not know what your right hand is doing.” That the Father that sees in secret will reward you openly. He said if you do it before men, you already have your reward, and will have NO REWARD from God (Matthew 6:1-4)

But in such a time as this, because activists and press people are constantly bashing the church in the news, some churches put their charity activities and welfare for the poor on social media in an attempt to please the people in our generation, by showing them these things.

I’d like to establish the fact that we are called to reach out to people both with the gospel and with good things. You cannot walk in love without giving to people or without helping people, but we are forbidden from announcing it. Click to tweet
I know this may seem like a tough post, but it is written out of love and does not exclude me.

We are now under pressure to secure the applause of men or to at least, reduce their criticism; so we can be left alone or be excluded from the unrelenting onslaught against the body of Christ. You want people to say your church is different and so you may give bags of rice to widows or school fees to poor students in the community, and show the videos of such things.

Please let us avoid this. It contradicts what the Lord taught. Do not do it. Churches should have a good name, but never by going against the word.
Show love because you believe in it.
Show love because you want to be a blessing to people, but do not advertise and don’t make it a means to show people you are doing something for the society

Really, men will praise you when you do so, but you have lost your reward from God.

If this has blessed you, please share with others.
